Policy Statement:

Financial aid for the summer term will be triggered by student enrollment in that term.

  1. Student must have completed the FAFSA for the current academic year to be considered for summer financial aid.
  2. Student must plan to enroll at least half-time at KU to receive federal loans and grants. In general, to be considered half-time in the summer, a student must be taking 3 hours, although exceptions exist for certain graduate students. Students must be enrolled in at least 1 hour to earn Federal Work-Study funds in the summer.
  3. If the student is attending a study abroad program, FAS must receive information from Study Abroad & Global Engagement about that student’s program costs before awarding will occur.
  4. If a student is eligible for federal financial aid, awarding will occur and the student will receive an email award notification.
  5. If the student has no remaining federal aid eligibility, the student will be advised of options for private alternative loans and loans through the Kansas University Endowment Association. Graduate/professional students will also be notified of their options for Federal Graduate PLUS loan.
