  • Summer Aid Awarding

The University of Kansas office of Financial Aid and Scholarships (FAS) manually awards financial aid to students who apply for summer aid.  The summer term is a trailer to the previous academic year.  Students may be eligible for aid from grant and loan programs if they did not use their full eligibility during the previous academic year.

Applies to:

All KU students who are interested in financial aid for the summer term.

Policy Statement:

In mid-February, a summer request for financial aid form will be available on the FAS website. For details, see summer request form on the FAS website at www.afforadability.ku.edu. The following will occur once the student submits the request form to FAS:

  1. Student must have completed the FAFSA for the current academic year.
  2. Student must plan to enroll at least half-time (3 hours) through KU to receive federal financial aid, including Federal Direct student and parent loans and Federal Work-Study.  Pell Grants can be awarded at any level of enrollment.
  3. If the student is attending a study abroad program, FAS must receive information from the Office of Study Abroad about that student’s program costs before awarding will occur.
  4. If a student is eligible for federal financial aid, awarding will occur and the student will receive an email award notification.
  5. If the student has no remaining federal aid eligibility, the student will be advised of options for private alternative loans and loans through the Kansas University Endowment Association. Graduate/professional students will also be notified of their options for Federal Graduate PLUS loan.
