Postdoctoral Term Limits
To establish and define term limits for postdoctoral trainees on all KUMC campuses.

Postdoctoral trainees employed by the University are considered unclassified employees and are subject to the appointment regulations of the State of Kansas, the Board of Regents, and the University of Kansas.
Postdoctoral appointments should be for a minimum of one year. Some postdoctoral scholars may have the possibility of annual reappointment for up to four additional years, for a total not to exceed five years, unless granted exemption by the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs or his designee. This limit applies only to time served at KUMC and not time as a postdoctoral scholar at other institutions.
Under special circumstances, exemption from the five year term limit for postdoctoral scholars may be requested by appealing to the Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs.

09/30/2015: Postdoctoral Advisory Committee email comment and voting period ended, final version of statement issued to Vice Chancellor of Acadmeic Affairs with 15 of 19 members endorsing, 4 members did not participate
09/18/2015: Draft statement reviewed at Postdoctoral Advisory Committee, edits made for clarity
11/13/2014: Postdoctoral Advisory Committee identified need for official policy based on prior guidelines being in place, annual survey indicated lack of clarity and compliance
