FAS Scholarship Awarding Criteria

Policy
Purpose: 

As a service to the University, FAS will coordinate and award scholarships to incoming freshmen and transfer students. Information below provides detailed steps regarding scholarship awarding and awarding process. 

Applies to: 

All Financial Aid and Scholarships staff members and any prospective freshmen and transfer students who are interested in being awarded a scholarship that can be found at www.affordability.ku.edu

Policy Statement: 

I. Prospective students must submit a complete admission application by the appropriate deadline to be considered for scholarships offered by Financial Aid & Scholarships (FAS).

     A. Freshmen deadline is November 1

          1. applicant must be coming directly from high school and have earned no college work after graduating from high school

          2. if applicant has graduated from high school and attended another university, college or community college, applicant will not be considered for freshmen scholarships.

     B. Transfer deadline is February 1

          1. applicant must be coming directly from community college

          2. applicants transferring from four-year college or university will not be eligible for transfer student scholarships

          3. applicants who have earned a four-year degree will not be eligible for transfer student scholarships

               a. applicants who have previously attended KU as a degree-seeking students are not eligible for transfer student scholarships

II. A complete freshmen application will consist of the following:

     A. Admission application found at www.admissions.ku.edu/apply

     B. Application fee

     C. Self-reported high school GPA

     D. Self-reported ACT/SAT

     E. List of senior year courses

III. A complete transfer application will consist of the following:

     A. Admission application found at www.admissions.ku.edu/apply

     B. Application fee

     C. All official college transcripts

     D. Only students transferring from community college will be considered for transfer scholarships

IV. Freshmen scholarships/ partial tuition waivers offered by FAS

A. Resident scholarships

B. Nonresident scholarships

C. Transfer scholarships
            D. Nonresident students wanting to be considered for the Midwest Student Exchange must meet all the awarding criteria. May 1st is the last day to change your major to be considered for Midwest Student Exchange.

V. Additional information for freshmen scholarships

     A. December ACT/SAT, 2015 test scores are the last scores to be used for scholarship awarding.
     B. The seventh semester grade report with cumulative high school GPA is the last report card used for scholarship awarding.

     C. Students must report new academic information (test score and/or high school GPA) to KU by February 1, 2016 for scholarship awarding. 

     D. May 1, 2016 is the last day for a student to change academic major to be considered for the Midwest Student Exchange.
